Epson Printer Driver Corruption Risk During Helper Tool Installation on macOS 14
Issue:
When launching the Epson Media Installer or downloading a media profile on macOS, you might encounter a pop-up message that says, "Epson Media Installer is trying to install a new helper tool."
- Accepting the installation of the helper tool could potentially lead to Epson printer driver corruption.
- Not accepting the installation of the helper tool will prevent the PPD file (PostScript Printer Description) for the specific printer from being updated. Consequently, any newly installed media will not be selectable in the printer driver.
Solution:
If the helper tool causes printer driver corruption, follow these steps:
- Remove the existing printer driver.
-
Reinstall the printer driver using a shorter name
(similar to the naming convention prior to macOS 14). For example, use "SC P900 Series (IP)" instead of "SC P900 Series 192.168.10.101 (IP)."
